Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

legacy.skritter.cn

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

Cantonese?

I've asked the boys about Cantonese.

Is there anyone interested in getting the Cantonese sounding for all of the characters? Cantonese associations are just easier for me because I know how the words would be used and it helps when I can read off a sign or menu and not have to read it in Mandarin and then translate to Cantonese to get the meaning.

Also, it would help with character retention for me...

Seeing the character in Cantonese context makes it MUCH easier to remember.
Plus also you get to see a bunch of useful colloquial phrases not seen in ordinary dictionaries.

Even better is to install the CantoDict Firefox search plug-in.

You can just copy and paste a character in there and get various things.

I prefer the "example sentences/phrases engine", because I know how to pronounce if the compound word is there.

Probably doesn't help for non-colloquial characters though.
