Private Sentences

马洲屹   October 27th, 2013 7:40a.m.

Okay malaili I'll speak up...but I expect a quid pro quo and no silence in relation to my latest request ;-)

+1

At the moment I am forced to put my sentences for context in my definitions. I would rather not do that and make my own sentences, so it would be great if we could make this a feature :-)

You guys know it's possible to add sentences with the "Create a new sentence" button, right?

nick   October 27th, 2013 8:45p.m.

Right; if you want to quickly add a private sentence, like editing a definition, then add a sentence in your definition or mnemonic field. You can put anything you like in there. Full sentences are words in the system like anything else and can't be made private, just as you couldn't add a word or character to Skritter that no one else could study.

Please don't remove the sentences.

Schnabelhund   October 28th, 2013 6:19p.m.

I also don't like the sentences and I'd like to disable them. Do I have to be on beta for that?

夏普本   October 28th, 2013 9:40p.m.

I don't mind them but the fact there is no way to change the example from the app makes them very frustrating. This is a must for the next update.

I mentioned this before, but I agree with 夏普本. I would like to be able to change the sample sentence from the app.

I understand that writing a new sample sentence would be too awkward from the app. But replacing an existing one from a menu of alternates? That's pretty simple from a user's point of view (programming this in the app might not be so simple...).

Right now I have a big backlog of words I've starred that I need to go into and replace the sample sentence for on the website. If I could just do that with a couple taps while I'm doing reviews, this would be so much easier.

I think this is a bigger issue for Japanese students as kanji will often have multiple readings and definitions. For example I was studying RTK1 and it lists the definition of 煩 as anxiety however in the example sentence it means noisy. It would be nice to have different example sentences for the readings as well as definitions.
