Android=True help.

spitface   January 18th, 2013 4:42p.m.

I know and am saddened that there is not an android app for this but there is a site someone linked me to that works on my android tablet that I use in school.

The link is www.skritter.com/study/all?android=true

This does work well on my tablet but I ran into a problem that I can’t figure out.
When I want to study a specific list I created the list will not work since the above link says "all?".
When I try to modify the link to include android=true I keep getting page not found.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about studying a specific list using the Android=true.

Thanks

There's now a setting in your study settings (the gear on the study page) which you can use to set the Android mode for your account, instead of having to add ?android=true everywhere.

That said, if you did want to use the GET parameter method, you could do it like this (example list link):

http://www.skritter.com/study/list?list=243955606&android=true

(There only needs to be one ? to specify GET parameters, and after that they're joined by &s instead of more ?s.)

Thanks a lot for the help. Made my life a whole lot easier.

Nick, can you be a bit more specific about where to find this setting? (for Dummies = me)- I've virtually stopped learning & am going backwards since my Galaxy Note upgraded to Ice Cream & ceased being operable for Skritter study, leaving the only time available when sitting at my desk. The posting by Spitface gives me a glimmer of hope again, but I can't find the setting you're referring to & I would prefer to work through the Skritter site rather than plunge into the unknown (for me). Thanks, Walter.

Go to: http://www.skritter.com/study/all
On the top right click on e Settings gear
Select 'Android Layout' in the layout section
Click 'Save Changes'

You would also need to install Flash player, if you didn't already have it: http://www.skritter.com/forum/topic?id=227777141

I found the settings and have flash installed. The site loads fine and looks promising, but I can't write. It says 'Tap to focus Flash' but after I tap trying to write just moves the screen. I use a Nexus 7 and the lastest version of Android (4.2.1). What am I doing wrong?

Vyten   January 20th, 2013 2:29p.m.

are you using firefox or the inbuild android browser? My firefox cant use scritter, only the inbuild browser allows me to write :) Hope that helps

StaceyM   January 20th, 2013 5:16p.m.

Vyten, thanks for pointing that out! Skritter does not work at all in Firefox, but it appears that the default browser can handle it. I would still really like to see an Android app, as I have no intention of ever purchasing an ipad.

distantvoice   January 20th, 2013 6:13p.m.

I am using Firefox. I thought it was the only way to use Flash on a Nexus 7. Could you be so nice as to post instructions on how to make Flash work in Chrome? I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't know.

Jonny   January 20th, 2013 10:18p.m.

I am really disappointed that an android version is not in the works. The site on android messes up as random sounds play and clicking has the effect of double clicking, skipping the 'next' word, making it unusable. I was won over and started really using Skritter when trying it on a borrowed Ipod but I can't justify getting one just for Skritter.

distantvoice   January 21st, 2013 8:58a.m.

Okay, I worked it out. You can't use Firefox, and Chrome doesn't do Flash as far as I know. But you can use Dolphin HD. However, the version from the play store doesn't work. You have to use this version:
http://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.apktops.com%2Fapp%2F201206%2FDolphin_Browser_HD_8.5.1.apk&session_token=w-dp7xfKygmqP9A9MyAKpUcEdol8MTM1ODg2MjIxMkAxMzU4Nzc1ODEy

The link is a mess because it's a redirect from youtube, but it works.
If you haven't installed apks from outside the play store before you need to allow your Droid to install apps from unknown sources. Go to Settings, Security, and tick the box that says Unknown sources or something similar. I use German on my Nexus, so the words might be slightly different. HF!

Edit: It works well, but not perfectly. The prompts where it asks you for the meaning of a character are resolved immediately and there's no way around that. When you suspect many prompts of that kind to follow each other you can press next, but using the next button always leads to more problems as it then skips some items, as if you had double clicked on the character after writing it. Still, if somebody would work on these issues, this could make an app superfluous.

nick   January 21st, 2013 5:21p.m.

We don't have good ways to debug the double clicking issues (which are only showing up as support for Flash has waned), and as it's becoming increasingly hard to hack Flash to run on Android devices, we'd rather focus our efforts on the platforms we do intend to support.

I posted elsewhere that I had trouble writing, but that was in Firefox. Built-in browser seems to work, but you have to write very slowly & deliberately to get your strokes registered... haven't tried the other prompts yet.

My next quest is, how do you change the grading for an individual character within a word? I can mark right-wrong, but I use "so-so" very often. Can't figure out how to do that. (I can only do for whole word).

nick   January 23rd, 2013 9:15p.m.

Turn on the grading buttons in the study settings (the gear).
