New feature request: Test using reading instead of definition

lilhater   September 22nd, 2011 2:53a.m.

Hey!

Considering you have a database of both definitions and hiragana readings, is it possible to test primarily using hiragana whilst hiding the definition? This might help me to try and remember the definition of the actual reading as well as practice the kanji!

I think it's possible, but it has to be useful enough that a good number of other users would also use it this way to be worth making an extra configuration option for it. Do others think this would be a useful mode for Japanese?

lilhater, one thing you could do to try this out in the meantime is to apply some custom CSS to the definition field such that you would only see it on hover and see if that helps your studying any. If you're interested, look up how to do custom CSS in your browser and I'll let you know what CSS rules you would need.

Hey! Thanks for the reply Nick!

Yeah, I think this would only be good for Japanese so I dunno how popular this is...

Great idea btw, I don't know why I didn't think of it myself... I ended up writing a quick Greasemonkey script... Which I can't seem to include here easily!

This is perfect for me atm though so unless others need the feature, I'm happy!

Great galloping Greasemonkey, you've gone and gamed it good! Nice.
