want info about character, not word

Kai Carver   January 7th, 2014 7:07p.m.

I am usually wanting information about a character, not a (multiple-character) word.

Since opening an information window is a bit slow (3 seconds or more), I wish for a way to directly open a window about a specific character (to see character decomposition, what other words use it, example, mnemonic, etc.)

Currently the head word is not clickable. How about letting us click on a character from the headword to directly get the information window about that specific character?

PS: I can cheat a bit with the indispensable Chrome Zhongwen popup dictionary, which gives me basic character info if I hover over the character.

But often I want more of that good detailed Skritter info to better understand and learn the character. So I have no alternative but to click and wait, twice, usually, which slows my flow. Ah well :)

Would be great if the information window opening could speed up, also have 3-15 seconds often, and this is the underlying issue. I'd prefer skritter was a little more expensive than save money on these things, if its a cost linked issue.

@kai, As the html5 application starts getting up to par with the current web version and stables out more that's like the happening place for new changes. You could open an issue for it on GitHub and describe how you think it should be. One other person has already mentioned to be it would be cool to be able to direct link to a character in a word.

@ricksh, I think the reason the information page is a bit slow is that it needs to make quite a few calls for data from the server before it can be displayed. The new alpha html5 version works by downloading your entire account into the browser so loading the information page is nearly instant.
