Traditional sentences don't show 了 correctly

Kryby   May 14th, 2014 2:57a.m.

It was mentioned months ago, but this bug still doesn't seem to have been fixed. Many (all?) sentences using traditional characters with 了 in them mistakenly show the character as 瞭

eg.
幹部們視察瞭我們的學校。
should be
幹部們視察了我們的學校。

Given how frequent the le character is, this is a really irritating bug. Any chance it can be fixed quickly?

I know there's a limited amount of Dev time going into Skritter at the moment.

For me, adding capability to edit or add examples from iOS would be a big help. Would happily fix the 瞭 issue as encountered. Or more importantly add examples where the current one is obviously bogus (e.g. Character is used as part of a transliterated western word, which isn't especially helpful...)

In any event, a blanket replacement of 瞭 with 了 would introduce errors of its own, but would be far more correct on average.

I also frequently notice this error, and it's a little bit annoying. It makes it rather obvious that Skritter is based primarily on simplified characters, and renders the traditional version of Skritter through machine translation. All of the many other issues that we learners of traditional characters deal with - the tones, word definitions, and character writings that follow the standards of mainland China, and are therefore considered incorrect in Taiwan - are somewhat understandable considering the conflicting standards and issues of Unicode and fonts, etc. But for the 瞭/了 error - which is unequivocally incorrect by all standards - to be so prevalent and persist for so long is much harder to rationalize. I would gladly fix all of the 瞭 errors manually as I encounter them if this were an option. But as it is, should we just send feedback for every word which contains this error in the example? I would probably end up submitting feedback multiple times per day, and I don't want to be an annoyance to the Skritter staff, but if that's the preferred way to address this ubiquitous error, then I'll start sending feedback.

This seems to be fixed now - thanks to whoever sorted it out.

Now that I'm reading the example sentences, it also seems that there's been an enormous improvement in their quality compared to a few months ago.

I ran a script to batch-correct the 了s, and it might have nailed ones that actually should have been 瞭, so keep an eye out. Evan has been spending a lot of time fixing up sentences, so it's good to hear that the improvements are noticed. More to come.
