Optional "Finished Writing" Button

whosnick   July 16th, 2012 5:31a.m.

Sometimes I am not entirely sure if the last stroke of an character really is the last one. This sometimes leads to the situation where I am not finished writing a character (in my head) and the app automatically goes into "writing complete"-mode, and I´m like "huh, oh right, that actually was the last stroke". What I would like to see, esp. in raw-squigs-mode, is an optional button that you have to press once you think you have finished writing. If there are strokes missing, the app will hint the next stroke upon pressing the button and lower the grade. Otherwise it will go into "writing complete"-mode.

PS: An example: Consider one has trouble differentiating the characters 问 and 间. Now the question for 问 comes up, and the person is prepared to write it as 间。 The app will never know that the person intended to add another stroke.

I do have similar problem but mine are with 戈 and 弋 and the like.

This button doesn't really make sense, as it would be an unnecessary extra press the majority of the time, to correct a problem with a small minority of cases.

How about you just adjust your grade down manually in these cases? Skritter is not an exam, you are only cheating yourself if Skritter grades you too highly.

I agree with alanmd, it's not worth putting time into developing.
I do have this problem a fair amount with similar new characters, or some that just need mnemonics to get the last part into my head - but I just grade myself wrong or so-so if I hadn't finished writing it, and that's less effort than clicking a button every time.

alanmd basically states our thinking. Our highest priorities are efficiency and efficacy, and adding another tap to every writing prompt would be an unacceptable hit in efficiency.
