New Wacom Bamboo

JakubED2   January 24th, 2012 3:52a.m.

Hey guys I am planning to buy a tablet for learning characters and I can't decide between the

OLD

and the

NEW Wacom Bamboo tablets

The prices are almost the same, but the OLD one has a lot of good reviews and seems to be very stable and convenient to use.

Anybody can give me advice on which one should I buy??

PS: I am buying primarily for learning Chinese characters, I dont do Photoshop or anything like that.

Thanks a lot

I have the old and have played with the new in the store. The only thing I noticed was the change in its looks, other than that they were identical. Personally I like the looks of the old version. However the newer version probably comes with more advanced bonus software.

The newer one has a USB port which, if you buy the expensive (~$50) wireless kit, allows you to use the tablet wirelessly. Depending on your desk setup, that may be something to take into account.

Could also look on ebay and see if you can pick up a second hand one for cheap.

Just make sure to avoid the touch only models.

I bought both of mine from ebay.
An intuos gd1212u for $66 (few cracks in the frame)
and pen and touch(cth460k) for $45 for work.

You can get manga studio for free with a trial offer
instead of paying $44

Can get other drawing software like pencil or inkscape for free.

I love my Wacom, but the wire is so long, and annoying. If I was starting out now, and the new one is wireless, I would buy the new one.

Thanks for the advice.

I have decided that I will go for the old one Wacom Bamboo Pen as it is tried, tested and recommended by most of the users. And the cable is apparently quite long so the wireless wouldn't help that much.

I just want to mention that I bought the new Bamboo Connect a couple of days ago. The previous versions were not available here (I live in Chile). I am very happy with it. I could enter all the Skritter recommended settings mentioned for the previous versions.I cannot compare to another writing tablet as this is the first time I use a writing tablet, but it is awesome. It is so much more comfortable to use than a mouse! Besides, it is not as ugly as I thought it would be, in fact it looks very nice.
I didn't buy the wireless adapter yet, but may do that later.
