Number of words

tarya92   March 16th, 2012 5:46a.m.

Hello,

is there any statistic where I can see the overall number of the words I lerned? Because on the progress page I can see only the number of charcters or "words with more then one character".

So if I want to know the total number of words I've learned, I need to go to the "my words" section, and click till I come to the last page.

Is there any easier way to do it?

Thanks.

On the progress page, there's a button called 'totals' on the top right that gives all the statistics; but I'm guessing this is the one you've found, and yes, it is two statistics for 'character' and 'word' - I'm not sure if there's a way to give a meaningful combined statistic if that's what you're asking.

Clicking to the end of 'my words' would give a misleading number I think, as for example you might have 早饭, 早, and 饭 seperately in 'my words', which would count as +3, when in the main statistic page this would count as +1 word and +2 characters to Skritter. Also, things like HSK levels are defined in terms of words and characters seperately, like Skritter does.

In a forum post (such as this one) click on your name. There the maximum values for both characters and words learned (across various prompts) is given, which you can then sum.

@Catherine: Yes, that's what I was looking for. Because if I have a word, let's stick with your exaple of 早饭, and I learn it as one word, Skritter will count it as +1 word and +2 characters even tough I might not now the meaning of 早 and 饭 as single caracters.

On the other hand, if I learn for example the character 是, which I can also use a word it only goes to the characters statistic, even tough it is used (and learnd) as an independent word.

One way to do this is to export all your words and have a program count how many lines there are, such as pasting them into Excel or some other spreadsheet program or site. You can do that from the 'My Words' tab. That's effectively the same as flipping through the 'My Words' table pages and getting to the end, but with less clicking.

This and other stats (like simplified vs traditional) are not tracked as you go, and not easily fetched, so I'm thinking I'll set up a way to generate a detailed stats report in the future.

Ok, Scott, no problem, I don't have THAT many words on my list yet, so clicking through the "My Words" isn't much of a big deal...

If you ask me, PLEASE fokus on the app for now, and deal with stat/website improvements later ;-)

Don't worry that's exactly what Nick and I are doing! Last week I did 49 hours of work, 44 of those were on iOS. I think Nick's ratio is even better.
