Server error

Is it safe to keep skrittering when I get the message “Server error, we'r on it" during practice.

The problem is that some of your data might not be getting saved. If you look at the pending requests indicator (bottom right) it will typically display a number showing how many requests are pending. Once all the pending requests have been handled (i.e. when the number vanishes), you can leave the page and your study data should have been saved.

How often do you see this? It can happen when there are a lot of timeouts at once. Thing might get a bit funny then, but as long as it doesn't continue to happen, you can probably keep practicing with minimal weirdness in your stats. If you don't want any weirdness, you can either do as James suggests and wait for all requests to be saved, or just reload the page and perhaps redo a few reviews.

It doesn't happen very often. Today it came up a few times and the site has been running slow. I also got a error message saying that the great wall of china is probably blocking my traffic, that's weird since I'm currently in Sweden.

So if the indicator doesn't display waiting server requests, I should be good to go?

@ James, yeah I always keep an eye on the pending request indicator. I love it, it was a great addition to a great site.

I would say that it is more than just a few times today. I have it constantly now. On the other hand,it have been mostly lightning fast for the past weeks.

I, too, was getting that error last night (China time). Happened a few times in a row, Skritter ran slow... which normally, at 11 PM, isn't an issue here at my school. I had actually never seen that error before, so I was wondering what the deal was myself. Good tip, though, James; I had never really known what that indicator was indicating!

Looks like we did hit a rough spot on the serving, although it wasn't as bad as it might have been. I have some further tricks I learned at Google I/O that might help smooth out further instances of these issues, but haven't had a chance to implement them yet.

Had it happen a couple of times yesterday .

Using chrome(13.0.767.1) and firefox(4.0.1) on mac (10.6.6)

chrome 13 isn't that stable and neither is its flash.

Speeds is the same in both browsers but chrome every now and again freezes usually just for 1/4 of a second but occassionally up to a few seconds. Doesn't happen in firefox

Don't use safari for skritter as it always seems a bit slower

The other more annoying error is when the text input box won't take text.
It happens occasionally.
You click init and type and no text, click some where else then back again and still nothing.

To fix it have to refresh the page. Have it happen once to twice a day.
Regardless of browser or os.
Though I do tend to use chrome more on both windows and mac.

Don't have flash installed on my linux boxes or vm's
