大家好

It's a bit of a random question, but does anyone know why Singapore Fried Noodles are called 星州炒面 in mainland China? I've asked a few local friends and no one seems to know.

According to a quick Baidu search, 星洲 is apparently another name for Singapore. Seemingly because one meaning of 星 is "very small".

In Cantonese, Singapore is 星架坡, because the 'sing' in it sounds like 星. http://zh-yue.wikipedia.org/wiki/星架坡. Then, 星州炒面 is not originated from Singapore but from Hong Kong and Chinatown.

星州炒面 is spelt wrong. it should be 星洲炒面.

星洲 and 星岛 are two names for singapore in the olden times.
