Extreme Challenge

sorachan   November 14th, 2011 10:36a.m.

Just learned about the Extreme Challenge you guys put up in May, unfortunately I missed it, will there be another challenge like this, maybe next year or something like that?

jcdoss   November 14th, 2011 11:15a.m.

Personally, I'm waiting until Skritter hosts their own version of the Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. I always thought Nick looked a little like Kenny Blankenship.

@jcdoss, that would be great. I wonder if anyone in the skritter community has a tropical island we could borrow for filming.

That sounds like just about the most fun ever. The Most Extreme Elimination Challenge version, that is. Not the actual Extreme Challenge we did. That one led to a lot of studying, but some people got burned out, and way more people won Wacoms than we were counting on! So future challenges will be different.

Yeah I definitely got kind of burned out.

Nicki   November 14th, 2011 8:38p.m.

Ooooh! Oooh! I have a tropical island you can use!

GrandPoohBlah   November 15th, 2011 1:31a.m.

That sounds good. It's probably a lot warmer in Hainan than it is in Colorado right now.

I loved the challenge, and it would be great if we could do another one. It's hard to motivate myself to study that much.

You guys could offer maybe 1 month free for Skritter. It's only 9.95, you don't have to pay for shipping, and logistically would be a lot easier to award. And you know, once you finish the app, a LOT more people will be able to complete the challenge. An hour a day won't be that hard when you can Skritter on the subway.

Really, the community involvement in the challenge is what was so motivating. I know you guys have plans for a leader board and different badges for accomplishments - that will be really fun to use when you have it implemented.

1 month free Skritter wouldn't work I think, because people will start thinking 'Ah you know what, I'm willing to pay the ten bucks to forget about this challenge'. If the prize is 'stuff' then most people must have that thing, that's the nature of the beast. Stuff, stuff, stufffff!!!

1 month sub would work for me! Honestly y'all, if you are ever in Hainan, come on over to my house for epic Skritter Games.

As a student, saving ten bucks (well, ok £6) is definitely an incentive!

Burned out is an understatement - I finished the Extreme Challenge almost six months ago and I've removed/banned over 100 items and added 3 since then... I'm finally approaching progress again after a month-long Save Me and giving up on NaNoWriMo for the year, but it's been a long road.

A) If another Extreme Challenge occurs, prizes should be minimal - the real reward should be the learning, and even a free month to everyone who completes the challenge would likely end up costing $2-3k in revenue.

B) If another Extreme Challenge occurs - count me out! For a month, I felt like my character and vocabulary study was flying along, but for the past six months, it's been in a decline as a direct result of the burnout. I know that's mostly my fault, but let's just say I won't make that mistake again.
