桃之妖妖

xiaobill   December 20th, 2011 10:20p.m.

Can someone translate this for me? Is it a person? Animation? A saying?

桃之妖妖

I tried google and baidu search, and I really can't see a connection. I'd rather not say why I need to know, but I want to know!

Thanks...

podster   December 21st, 2011 7:57a.m.

are you sure its not 逃之夭夭?Or maybe a pun?

DaXia   December 21st, 2011 10:34a.m.

你在谷歌上搜索过吗?我搜索一次,第一个结果链接就是百度百科上的http://baike.baidu.com/view/875123.htm 。一看就知道是一个漫画作品。接着看就能得知所谓“桃之妖妖”是指这部漫画的主角。她是一个居住在“桃花村”的“小狐妖”,所以叫“桃之妖妖”嘛。

英文翻译大概是: The peach witch
狐妖这个词不好翻译。意思大概是一只能变人形的狐狸。

xiaobill   December 21st, 2011 10:41a.m.

Alright. So it is an animated series. Thanks!

xiaobill   December 21st, 2011 10:43a.m.

@podster, what kind of pun could it be? I dont know much Chnese. Just a little from my ex.

This is definitely a pun. The proper word for “peach witch” is 桃妖、桃之妖精 or something like that.
桃之妖妖 sounds exactly the same as 逃之夭夭 which is an idiom. It also sounds the same as 桃之夭夭,which is the first phrase of a poem taken from《诗经》, the first line of which is 桃之夭夭,灼灼其華。之子于歸,宜其室家。

xiaobill   December 21st, 2011 10:22p.m.

So it could be a pun of "To get away with (something)"? "To escape", etc.? Hmmm...

SkritterJake   December 21st, 2011 10:29p.m.

I take is as a play on the original line of the poem, now used as a pun, implying the something is sweet to the point that you want to get away from it. Of course, it is also the name of manga. I'll ask some of my friends here in Taiwan about what they think.

Thanks for the update. I mainly asked this since my ex changed her QQ status to that, and she said she couldn't explain what it meant. So I was seeing if I could find out.
