Question about simplified/traditional character definitions

mykal   June 13th, 2012 12:00p.m.

Today I was reviewing traditional characters and the character 醜 came up, and it had the correct definition of 'ugly', however the definition also included definitions for the character 丑, '2nd earthly branch; clown'.

Since the simplified version of 醜 is 丑, I'm wondering if definitions are tied to the simplified characters and are then mapped to tradtitional characters?

I also noticed in the past, that sometimes when entering characters like 丑 where it is valid as both a simplified and traditional character, but the simplified version has one other corresponding traditional character it would be interpreted as simplified only and not traditional.

Our system stores a mapping of traditional to simplified characters, and our current mapping of 丑 is incorrect. The next time we fix mappings, we'll get that character fixed.
