Chinese: Studying the writing of characters but not words

thomapples   October 2nd, 2014 6:32a.m.

Hello all,

After spending my summer break Skrittering up a storm, I now find myself swamped with reviews having returned class and not being able to spend so much time on Skritter each day.

I'm following the advice from recent posts on how to deal with this problem. However, one thing I'd like to do, but can't seem to, is turn off the writing reviews for words while keeping them turned on for characters. I want to review how to write all the characters I've studied, but I don't want to waste time writing out the characters in every single word on my vocab lists.

So far I've done the following:

(1) turned off the "add characters in word" function

(2) turned off the writing reviews for each my vocab lists

(3) extracted all the individual characters from "my words" and created a "characters only" vocab list

(4) kept on the writing reviews for this "characters only" list

The problem is that all the individual characters were added to "my words" from my vocab lists (via the "add characters in words" function). These vocab lists now have the writing reviews turned off, so all the writing reviews for the individual characters will cease, once I clear the backlog of reviews.

If I could delete the individual characters from "my words" then I could re-add them from my new "characters only" list and I'd be able to review how to write them. However, it doesn't seem to possible to delete them - I can only ban them.

Grateful for any tips on how to solve this issue. I've searched through previous forum posts, but haven't been able to find a solution.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,

Thom

PS The only solution I can see is the nuclear option - delete everything and start again, but I'd rather not do that...

Maybe I misunderstand, but it doesn't seem like writing reviews for the individual characters (which are in the "Characters Only" list, right?) will cease unless you also remove that list from active study.

The other way to do this would be to just remove all the other lists from My Words (they'll still be there waiting for you to re-add them) until you've cleared the reviews from all the characters, then add the lists back one-by-one.
