Add Word Frequency Annoyance

wnzszi   April 14th, 2011 9:09a.m.

Hi,

Maybe it's just me, but I find the "Add Word Frequency" to not work as it should. I set the option to "slow", thinking it will add words to the review queue AFTER I clear the items in my review queue, but then I get 12 words added to the queue. THEN before I can complete those words, it adds several more! I hate that I have to manually add the words to my queue to control the pace. I wouldn't be as annoyed if: 1) I weren't paying for the service, or 2) They didn't even have "automatic adding" as an option.

If somebody out there can explain what I may be doing wrong, then please do. I like Skritter, but I think that basic functions should work, especially if I have to pay a monthly fee.

It typically adds words before your review queue is down to zero, even if it's set to slow. The reason it's so extreme for you right now is that you're new to Skritter - the SRS algorithm can't find enough stuff to keep you busy, since it's got a small pool of words and characters to choose from, and if you keep studying without adding new items it would just have to keep cycling stuff in that's not ready to be studied again. Once your Skritter stats grow and you've got more stuff in there to review, it'll slow down.

If you want it to add more slowly, you could switch it to "Manual add only" for now on the study settings page. That way, you'll have to hit the green plus sign on the practice page for Skritter to add a new item, so you can add at your own pace.
