New practice page audio?

jww1066   December 6th, 2009 5:04p.m.

I know some time ago the audio on the new practice page was supposed to be "in progress". I tried it just now and it looks like the audio still doesn't work. Is it working for other people? I'm running Firefox 3.5.3, Flash player 10,0,32,18, on Windows XP.

I ask because the audio problem is my only reason for not using the new practice page, and I see in the front page poll that very few people are saying "no, too buggy". (Maybe "too buggy" is too harsh, as it does seem to work otherwise.)

Audio on the new practice page works fine for me, I'm using firefox 3.0.15 on windows xp. Did you make sure the little bar underneath the speak is moved all the way up?

Sorry, ignore that, I had something misconfigured.

Glad it's fixed. As far as I know, there are three bugs with audio (on latest Flash player). One is that the mute/unmute doesn't save state properly. Another is that the clipping sometimes doesn't work and the word and character sounds will play at the same time. The third is that you can still hear the ghosts on lonely nights if you listen closely.

Now I am scared to skritter alone... haha

Skrittering alone is one of the signs of addiction... be careful out there!

We need a skritter 12 step program

I actually experience the sound stopping sometimes for a few words, then starting to work again. Even explicitly clicking the sound button does not bring back the sound then.
It did not visibly move to muted for me. Sometimes it helped to restart the new practice page.

My system is English XP, Firefox 3.0.15, Flash 10.0 r22.

MasterOfComboBoxes, can you give some example words that lost their sound? Not all words or syllables have audio. Otherwise, I'm not sure--you could try upgrading to Flash 10.0 r32 to see if it changes anything.

Here's a bug: when I click on the little sound button to play a character sound, almost always repeated (played twice). I'm on Linux Firefox, so that could be an issue. Flash support isn't great on this platform.

I see it; fixed that bug. Thanks for the bug report.
