Anyone else getting this iOS bug?

Sometimes the volume on the app will mute by itself and I won't be able to hear the pronunciation of the word I'm being tested on. This always lasts for just one word/character, I can even see the volume button on the app toggle itself off when this happens, but I can't turn it back on manually... the only thing that works is just going to the next word and it will automatically turn back on, until the next time when it turns itself back off.

This wasn't very common before, but today it happened 3 times in a span of 5 minutes, so I'm a bit worried.

I had this too, I thought it was for words that there was no audio for. Maye not!

戴德辉   June 20th, 2012 2:10p.m.

Ah that might be it, I haven't been keeping track if I've heard the same words being muted before on the app.

Have you downloaded the extra pronunciation files in the App Settings? Do you still hear the sound effects (if you have those on), or does it hit both the sound effects and the word audio?

戴德辉   June 20th, 2012 5:36p.m.

Yes I have downloaded those files, and I usually have sound effects off... I can try with them on to see what happens. I'm guessing it would still be muted since the volume button gets automatically toggled to mute whenever it happens.

I also have a sound issue. I'm not sure if it is the same issue as OP's.

Some words will not play an audio file, the audio button is crossed out.

It only happens for words of at least 2 characters, I wonder if it is perhaps a problem with there not being a sound file for the entire word

e.g there would be no sound file for "nihao" but on the browser version in that case it would play the individual sound file of each character "ni" "hao"

It would be really good if I could at least hear the audio for the individual characters.

Would it be helpful if I submitted feedback in app on the words that don't play audio?

Catherine :)   June 20th, 2012 9:11p.m.

@Paddy665 Unsure about OP but this is what I was talking about. I'll try and write down which words it happens on to see if it is this. :)

paddy665   June 20th, 2012 10:28p.m.

It seems like its mainly while studying definitions of words of more than one character, I'm submitting bug reports, I hope that is helpful.

戴德辉   June 20th, 2012 10:44p.m.

Oh woops that's probably the issue I'm having, I guess I didn't explain it well haha.

Elwin   June 20th, 2012 10:47p.m.

Definitions and pinyin of words of more than one character are put together on one screen just the same as when it is one character, these words are only pronounced if there is audio for it, and if not then the single characters won't be pronounced in this case, unlike the writing and tone parts which use multiple screens. Hence the audio button is crossed out. Otherwise they would have two combine two or more audio files for one screen, for every word.

Oh ok that makes sense
