Sugestions

Hi skritter team.
I have some suggestions based on my study experience.
It would be really nice if I could write in my own definitions of the words when I make my vocabulary lists. I know that I can make changes of the word definition when I study my list, but that means that I have to check each word again when I study to see if it matches the definition in my textbook. There are a lot of them that don't mach.
Furthermore it would be nice if I could change the status of my words in the vocab list, so that I for example can decide that I don't know the writing of a word, because I want to study it more. I don't know if this is already a possibility, but if not, it would be nice to be able to do it.

why dont you just spend some hours using skritter before wanting to reinvent it?

@learninglife, I also make suggestions even though I haven't been here long. Even if suggestions are misplaced, it gives the developers an opportunity to point out features and/ or approaches that the user is not aware of, make the documentation clearer, or make note of the suggestion for the future.

Hi MathildheHL!

You can do the first of these already, although it's not as easy to find as we'd like.

To add custom definitions while making a list, first add all of the words you want to a section and click Save. Then, once the section is complete, click on the first word you want to edit. It'll show the word popup, which has an "Edit Definition" button in it. You can then add your own custom definition. When you're done, press the arrow at the top to quickly move to the next word and do its definition.

We don't have a control for you to change the learnedness of a word without missing it while studying, but what you can do is star the word for special attention. Then, when you want to review problem words (and you have at least four of them), you can go to My Words > Starred Words > Study Starred Words and mash them down.

i am usually pretty critical but maybe its just the fact that i think skritter already quite perfect the way it is in its given adjustments. i didnt mean to shut up constructive criticism but wanted the user first to sit down, use it for a while and then see if it really needs to be altered.

Hi Nick
Thank you very much for the reply. I have already tried this way you are talking about, and I tried again now. But it is not working; it just changes back after I have edited it. I don't know if there is some kind of error then? Or maybe there is another approach?
Ok thanks for the advice.

Learninglife: I have used Skritter for some time now, but there are some things that I find difficult about it. I think it's quite something that you suggest that I haven't tried to solve these problems for myself first, and furthermore you should remember that different people have different needs and therefore aspects. Have a nice day.

I have one suggestion as well, or more like an idea I got few days ago. It would be great to have the option, on site and specially in the app, to have a page for top 10 words I get wrong or something like that. It could also be top 20 or even top 50, but for me it would be useful to see these tricky words on one place in order to finally learn them well. Example sentences would be great here too.

I'm not sure if this is something others would find useful, but it something that I have the need to do on paper at the moment. Just an idea that came to my mind when getting the same words wrong all the time.

MathildeHL, if you edit the definition through the word popup and then reload the section contents page afterward, does it then show the change properly?

xuefang, it might work to do something with the leech score if I get some time to fix that up, but I'll have to see how it makes sense to query for it.

MathildeHL   September 6th, 2012 8:06a.m.

no it still doesn't work :(

nick   September 7th, 2012 12:23a.m.

Hmm; I can't reproduce it. What browser are you using? Can you send three screenshots of before, during, and after editing of the definition to show me exactly how it's going wrong? You can email them to nick@skritter.com.
