iOS not syncing properly

zhangyanglu   October 9th, 2012 2:46a.m.

Hey Nick, hey Scott,

I am using Skritter on iPad 3 and since last week also on iPhone 5.

Ipad always worked fine, but now I am starting to experience a lot of sync problems. When I work on my ipad, afterwards it's impossible for me to update Skritter on iPhone the next day.
When I check the sync status, Skritter acknowledges that there are Vocab updates pending, but even a forced sync doesn't help.
I have to delete all user data and download/recompile everything again.

Also, I face problems when adding new words. I sometimes activate/deactivate "add words from this list". When I re-activate it on iPhone, to add, let's say, 21 words, it says "looking for words" but nothing else happens. Then I check on the website and in the browser version it still says that my vocab list is inactive (not adding words from this list).

Any ideas?

Regards,

Zhangyanglu

Clear your data, go into "Settings" then touch the "Account" tab at the bottom. Next scroll to the bottom and click on "Clear Local Data". And last sync with the server.

That's exactly what I am doing to fix the problem... but that can hardly be a real solution because if I need to wait 5 minutes for re-compiling the entire account, I will just not switch the device anymore (would be a shame though) :)
Doesn't seem to be a one-time problem as it repeats each time I change my device.

Right now it says: All match on iPhone, but in iPad:

Items - match
Custom data - MISMATCH
Progress - MISMATCH
Mnemonics MISMATCH
Custom definitions - match

We have these multi-device sync problems it on our bug list and will hope to have it fixed for the next version. Haven't tracked down the problem yet, though.

Hello Nick,

was it possible for you to fix this issue for the update you handed in?

If not, one suggestion from my side... create a new button please, "reset all".

The way it is done now, it is a pain in the ass because if I really used Skritter the way I want to use it, I would have to reset the account several times a day, and I would be forced to always type in my username and password again.
With a better "reset" button, at least I wouldn't need to enter my account details each and every time.

We think we've found the problem and the fix is in the update that's awaiting Apple review. So I hope the next version will work better for you.

That would be awesome, Nick! Will keep you posted once I can get my hands on the update :)

Hi nick,

in the end I updated to the new version by accident (Itunes) ;o) and so I tried testing the new syncing.

Sorry to tell you that for me it still does not work:

iphone with newest version and Skritter reset says, everyting updated.

iPad, also with newest version, says:
Custom data and mnemonics don't match with server.

zhangyanglu   December 11th, 2012 11:54a.m.

Update. Now it says progress mismatch on iPhone.

Did you also clear all the info out of the iPad? And had you fully synced (ie were there no items left to upload on the sync status screen)?

zhangyanglu   December 11th, 2012 4:16p.m.

Hi Scott,

just tried it again; deleting both ipad and iphone data, fully sync both, then I skrittered half an hour on ipad, sync, and now iphone is not synced anymore.
It says customn data and progress mismatch this time.

Items to sync = 0
sync status = green

on both of them.
