Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

legacy.skritter.cn

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

for those of you wanting to use skritter on a Microsoft Surface

just figured now that they're selling them in more places, eventually people will wanna know how to do it :)

browse to http://www.skritter.com/study/all?android=true instead of the normal study page.

note to Nick / Skritter team, if you wanna set up a user agent string redirect, the UA (for mine, anyway) is

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows NT 6.2; ARM; Trident/6.0; Touch)

for more, see http://www.skritter.cn/forum/topic?id=202136659

Happy skrittering!

and another interesting bit, someone somewhere at Microsoft must have gone out of their way to make sure Skritter would function with the Surface - only a specific list of websites (which you can view / edit at C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IECompatData\iecompatdata.xml for the so-inclined) can load Flash in Metro IE, and Skritter.cn and Skritter.com is in that list :)

If you use:

http://www.skritter.com/study/all?android=true&resolution_width=800

then you get the normal horizontal layout, too, instead of the stripped-down phone portrait layout. I'll be working on the user agent detection.

It's up on beta now; does it work?

http://beta.skritter.com/study/all

(This will also obey the Android setting in your study settings, in the gear.)

We submitted a compatibility list entry for that Flash permission at the tip of another Skritter user a while back.

still seems to be loading the normal full site in beta.skritter.com too on tablet; no tap to focus prompt, and not working

nick   December 19th, 2012 12:38a.m.

blakomen, hmm--what if you enable Android mode in the study settings?

blakomen   December 20th, 2012 5:29a.m.

I had to send my package back as there was a manufacturing defect with the touch cover, but ill check when I get it back~

nick   December 20th, 2012 12:11p.m.

Okay. I've made some further changes to try to detect it even more fiercely.

mattrs   December 22nd, 2012 4:15p.m.

site at beta.skritter.com works on surface, confirmed. However it is hard to discover the tap to focus gesture. I suggest detect UA and give users a hint.

Note: I don't see Android mode in the study setting.

mattrs   December 23rd, 2012 8:16a.m.

correction: there is a note to tap to set focus. also I did find Android mode in settings.

I have been using beta site on Surface, and its working fine. It would be even better though to get a native app. 😃

I just verified on my Surface. This is fantastic news. The Flash site seems to work fine.

Now a native Windows/Windows Phone app would be awesome 😉 If you ever decide to grow the company in that direction let me know--I tangentially work on those products.
