Making your own vocab list?

chriscoboy1   March 8th, 2011 12:30p.m.

Hey I am having trouble making my own vocab list. I am putting the Chinese character in the box but then it says there is nothing there, I am pretty sure I am not doing something right.... Can I get some help?

scott   March 8th, 2011 12:52p.m.

Are you pressing enter after you have finished typing the character? And to make sure you're typing in the right box, it's the big blue one that says "type or paste words here and press Enter", right?

Also, make sure it's one word/character per line. So you can copy and paste the following words into the box and it should work.

陆雨平
力波

Or you can type them directly into the box.

ohhhhhh Press enter! Thanks

Pardon my French, but a few lines on the forum page below I was asking the same question. Cool to read an answer (and have that kind of feeling..., you know... of a...) yes, I've forgot to press "Enter" as well.

Still, what would you say. IF I've typed some words in the blue box AND pressed "Save changes" without pressing "Enter", even if I was stupid enough - why should it simply pass unnoticed? How about printing some message that would point me out that I am doing something wrong please?

chriscoboy1   March 8th, 2011 4:30p.m.

Yeah your post down bellow sparked my interest....

scott   March 9th, 2011 9:00a.m.

Oops, sorry, breakphreak I hadn't gotten to that post yet. Good though that this answers your question as well.

That's a good idea though. I'll add a warning for people who try to leave the page or close the popup with text in that box, or maybe add a piece of text in or below the box that says 'press Enter'.

Other than that, how is the list editor working for you guys? It's gone through a bunch of iterations; overall does it make sense when you use it?

breakphreak   March 9th, 2011 9:09a.m.

Thanks for replying - that's the most important and you are really monitoring the forum daily.

The list looks cool besides the issue, described above.

Also, since the order of words in the list also denotes the order of appearance of the (new) characters while they are adding - it would be a minor improvement to be able to reorder them (by drag-n-drop). But that's a very side-ish idea I could think about :)

scott   March 9th, 2011 3:30p.m.

Actually, that's already implemented! The little grabber on the left side of each row can be used to drag and drop the rows. Can also do that with the sections editor to move sections around.

Oh-la-la! (or in other words, in those moments I shame to look at the mirror)

Thanks :)

Is there an offline skritter app that would allow you to practice a 100 or so words off of the internet?

scott   March 9th, 2011 6:44p.m.

Not right now. Nick is working on an iPhone/iPad app which will be partially offline like you describe, but we currently have no plans beyond that at this point.
