iPhone App Demo Bug Fixed!

george   June 19th, 2012 10:42p.m.

Funny story, we worked on the iPhone app for thousands of hours and at the last moment introduced a bug that caused all new users that had not installed the app previously to be unable to see the demo. We submitted an update request to Apple last Tuesday and have finally got the update pushed through.

So, if you have had any issues with the app not allowing you to write or seeming unresponsive, un-install the app from your device, and reinstall it from the App store and the problems should now be resolved.

If the app worked for you hunky-dorey the first time, no need to uninstall, you're good to go. The app store will tell you to update the app, but there's only one fix in the update which is described above.

Thanks everyone for your patience and incredible understanding!

Glad the update is through! that bug was some tough luck, never saw it once in the beta testing.

Is there anyway to get back to the demo once you've signed in without creating a whole new account? I'd like to be able to show the demo to friends to get them hooked!

Once updated, if you click on 'help' on the front page of the app, there's an option to view the demo again :)

Also, @George - should we resubmit our reviews? I'm not sure how they work with different versions.

kaysik   June 20th, 2012 6:34a.m.

@Catherine: Yes - resubmit your review after getting the update. By default it shows ratings for the latest version only (you can see all time rating but I highly doubt most people bother). The reviews are also sorted by version so if you re-review the app your new one will appear above all the "demo doesn't work" reviews, hopefully drowning them out. So re-rating it once you have the update does help and is worth it.

Thanks :) I'm a bit confused though, I'm new to iOs... My review still says it was for the older version. When I go to the app store page and hit write review, it just keeps the same one. Sorry, just want to make sure it gets updated!

Byzanti   June 20th, 2012 11:49a.m.

I think it will take a short while for apple to check the review first. I don't know whether any changes have to be made first to the review prior to this happening, or whether you can just resend.... Resubmitted mine, will see!

I'm wondering if I should uninstall and reinstall, because the app is working alright right now, but i never watched the demo , so I don't know what I missed.

nick   June 20th, 2012 2:16p.m.

You probably don't have to reinstall in order for the demo to work from the link at the top of the Guide section in the app. After you update to 1.0.2, it should be able to recover.

Good job on the fix btw guys.
The demo was really well done, I especially liked the different skritter fuzzy red cartoon guys.

I have now recruited 3 friends to skritter and they all love it. One question I have tho; One of my friends used the referral email I sent to join but I think my other 2 friends just went to the website and made accounts, can we still get the 2 week free bonus thing?

scott   June 21st, 2012 12:15p.m.

Sure just send me their usernames at scott@skritter.com and I'll add the referral time. Thanks for doing that!

in case anybody else is as dense as I am, please note that the "demo" is also known as "the intro". I did not uninstall the app before upgrading. After upgrading I tried out the demo by going to help / "tap here to do the intro again". worked fine.

nick   June 23rd, 2012 12:46p.m.

We had to rename "demo" to "intro" and "one-week free trial" to "it's free for a week", since Apple wouldn't let us use the words "demo" or "trial" even while recommending that we offer a demo and a trial. This wording issue actually held up our bugfix for six days when they noticed it in our 1.0.2 update (after not caring in 1.0.0 or 1.0.1). Ouch!
