Skritter website on iPad 3 not displaying properly sometimes

pprendeville   January 8th, 2013 5:53a.m.

Does this ever happen anyone when using the Skritter website on iPad?

Basically, it nearly becomes impossible to read as lots of text overlaps. It can be solved partially by pinching but it usually returns again.

I can't see the picture, but I use the ipad 3 and never had a problem similar to what your describing.

I also can't see the photo, but I haven't had any issues reading the Skitter site on my iPad 3.

Hasn't been happening the last few days but very frustrating when it does.

Haven't seen this, but I don't use the web site much on the iPad.

In fact now I am curious about how you use the web site on your iPad.

And now I am wishing for a direct link to each character or word's web page from the Skritter app. This might give me the context that I need.

pprendeville   January 15th, 2013 6:46a.m.

I just use it on my ipad for entering mnemonics and example sentences for characters. Not sure what you mean by the last 2 sentences.

Is that a Java script problem? I get that on the computer on other sites sometimes when I am using the Firefox NoScript plugin and I have to temporarily allow everything in the current site.

Wow, that looks really nice. You say this only happens sometimes? What happens if you try it in, the Google Chrome browser?

Kai Carver   January 15th, 2013 2:14p.m.

@pprendville I mean I'd like to be able to easily switch to the Skritter web page for a character or word when I am studying it on the app.

I really like studying with the Skritter app, but I've been missing all the helpful contextual information provided by the web version of Skritter. Instead of, or in addition to, the Pleco button, I'd like a SkritterWeb button. That way, when online, the app user would benefit from all the great stuff that is in the web site and that, for one reason or another, can't be integrated into the app.

Kai Carver   January 15th, 2013 2:36p.m.

In fact I don't know how to link to the Skritter character page that you took a screen capture of.

The closest I can get is a link to a list of characters
http://www.skritter.com/vocab/listsect?collapsed=true&list=163467231&style=simp&sect=1

or the very hacky
http://www.skritter.com/vocab/wordpopup?vocabKey=zh-际-1
which doesn't show all the information.

@nick is there currently a way to link to a Skritter page for character or word that displays all of its information? That would be very useful in its own right. And if integrated with the app it could provide a lot of complementary information at no development cost.

nick   January 15th, 2013 4:09p.m.

Could be a good idea. I'll talk with the team. Apple generally doesn't let us link to or mention the Skritter website at all anywhere in the app, but perhaps they'll let this one slide.

Kai Carver   January 18th, 2013 2:50a.m.

I guess you could also handle that link with a web view from inside the app. That's usually fine with Apple.

In any case, unrelated to the app, it would be quite useful if there was a way to have a URL that displays the Skritter info for a given character or word.
