flash elemnt too big on android

mjrmua   August 30th, 2011 1:26p.m.

The flash app for writing is suddenly displaying in a unusually large size on my Android browser. And I can't zoom out to get it to fit in the window.
Has something changed in the last 12 hours? Or is this a problem with my phone?

Check this topic out for what's going on with Android as we try to get the site to work for all the shapes and sizes:

To enable zooming, add ?zooming=true to the end of the URL

mjrmua   August 30th, 2011 5:16p.m.

Thanks Scott, zooming=true works like a charm

Also, mjrmua, can you let me know what Android device you have, and what your user agent string is?

Thanks!

I also have an htc desire and the app is unusable for me at the moment!!!i understand it may be difficult to make sure that the scaling is fine for everyone but why not let us determine what works best and adjust the settings. You could still make it default to some values depending on the model but give us the possibility to tweak these values

marchey, thanks for letting me know the layout doesn't work. Can you tell me more about how it doesn't work--is it too big, like mjrmua's? Where is it cut off? Has the initial zoom changed from what it was a few days ago?

To tweak the zoom again, add ?zooming=true to the end of the URL for now while I work on a better solution.

marchey   August 31st, 2011 11:43a.m.

It is too big. I have the impression that the top left corner is more out less where it should be. But right and bottom is of the screen. Top left I see the pinyin. I miss part of the right hand side of the canvas, but there is enough of it to make tracing most characters possible. Bottom I can make out about1/3 of the buttons.
The work around is a good solution for me, I modified my bookmark for skritter and so it is easy to get there.

Okay, thanks for that feedback, marchey. I'll plan to do a lot of work on this soon, but not this week. Thanks for your patience, everyone.

liamshannon   September 8th, 2011 2:08p.m.

Yes, I had the same problem, again on the HTC Desire HD. The ?zooming=true workaround fixed it perfectly.

Could we possibly have an option to default redirect to this version of the site? This could possibly be the most practical and simple fix to the problem.

marchey   September 9th, 2011 1:43a.m.

I have the zooming= true option in the shortcut that I use to access skritter but still had to zoom manually every time. This morning it came up at the right size immediately. So the problem seems to be fixed for my device. Nick did you change something or is this just an android quirk?

nick   September 9th, 2011 10:00a.m.

Tuesday. That's when I'm stealing George's phone, rewriting the layout engine, and trying to figure out what's going wrong with the slow loading and freezing, since I can't debug any of it on my tablet. Thanks for your patience.

leutnerm   September 13th, 2011 8:26a.m.

Hey! The workaround doesn't work for me. Could you possibly post an example?
I'm on HTC Desire.
