Why I am starting to dislike Skritter, but love studying Chinese

atdlouis   April 19th, 2011 7:44p.m.

I live in Gansu, and the frozen winter is in full thaw. The trees all have their leaves back, the sun is out, and pineapple vendors are on every corner.

I walk down the street listening to ChinesePod, I read simple Chinese books in a cafe (爱的礼物), and in the city center square, I read my textbook. People are out and flying kites, it is so beautiful...

But if I want to study Skritter I am stuck inside at my desk. At the same place. Where I have studied hours and hours. Where it is boring and the longer I spend there, the more I dread doing Skritter practice.

I know you are working on a mobile version. Just saying.

Did I mention I live in Gansu...? :)

I study while soaking up some sun on my balcony every morning. I come home to sleep anyway, might as while Skritter a bit while I'm here. On the other hand, just thinking about Skrittering at the lake, in the park, in a box, with a fox... wow.

Any news on the iphone app? Where can we sign up to be a tester?

atdlouis I am with you on this one. What I'd like to do is skritter on an iphone at those idiotic meetings that I have to attend all the time.

Skritter is hard. Be nice now. This is my first time using. Also, this is my first time learning Chinese. I need a tutor.

I just started making some massive progress on the iPhone app, having gotten a bunch of other work out of the way. I'm hitting my stride in Objective-C. That said, there's still tons to do before we can unsheathe the dream of Skrittering while walking about a bustling spring Gansu.

Yes please give us an iPod or iPhone app. I am thinking of buying an Android phone just so I could skritter! My iPod is still my number one device so i really hope you guys can design the app quickly!

I recently bought an android mobile phone and the only way I see to use Skritter is to go to the website (then it implies to have an internet connection...). Does it exists an other way ? Because impossible to find any Skritter android application on the market.

Thanks

@Gluminou - Currently, there's no other option for Skrittering on Android. In theory, you should be able to get an internet connection pretty much anywhere on an Android phone, though you might have spots with bad reception or it might be generally expensive.

Nick has stated that the iOS app will work in a different way from the website version, in such a way that it is offline-friendly. Unfortunately, the website isn't offline-friendly yet, and there's no immediate plan to make it so.
