Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

legacy.skritter.cn

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

skritter.cn annoyance

JB   February 23rd, 2013 12:40a.m.

When I type "skritter.cn" into my browser, it re-directs me to skritter.com, and then tells me that I can't get to skritter.com because of the Great Firewall, that I have to go to skritter.cn?

Does this happen to anyone else?

mcfarljw   February 23rd, 2013 1:36a.m.

It happens to me occasionally on the first try, but if I immediately change the redirected .com domain to .cn it works the second time.

learninglife   February 23rd, 2013 6:45a.m.

maybe this is because you are not in china?

JB   February 23rd, 2013 8:16a.m.

...... I am in China, forgot to mention that.......

learninglife   February 23rd, 2013 11:42a.m.

i am also in china. never had problems with skritter.cn.

i can never access skritter.com :)

mattrs   February 23rd, 2013 10:33p.m.

I have the same issue as jb. Also in china.

missb   February 24th, 2013 1:56a.m.

Same issue today. Weird.

JB   February 24th, 2013 5:50a.m.

Yeah, I re-tested today on different computers and browsers, and it seems to consistently happen.

learninglife   February 24th, 2013 1:06p.m.

never! happened to me (china, bj)

nick   February 25th, 2013 2:53p.m.

If you type in www.skritter.cn instead of just skritter.cn, does it do the same thing?

JB   February 27th, 2013 4:32a.m.

Ahhh, hmm seems using the www makes a difference!

learninglife   February 27th, 2013 7:20a.m.

Nick, you are so smart and you have an eye for the detail!

Well done!

Of course I put in www before skritter.cn, who wouldnt?

nick   February 27th, 2013 9:38p.m.

Hmm. I can't seem to find the code or DNS that does this rerouting yet, so for now, just avoid the naked skritter.cn domain.

MDeLee   February 28th, 2013 3:01a.m.

Nick,
Set your DNS record default to the same site as the www. It will take about 24 hours and everyone should see it. The test is if a computer command line "ping" to www.skritter.com returns the same IP address as a ping to skritter.com.

nick   March 5th, 2013 7:00p.m.

Thanks MDeLee, but it's already set that way--the redirect is somewhere in our code, I think.
