Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

legacy.skritter.cn

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

Cannot start Skritter anymore with IE

zhangyanglu   February 11th, 2012 9:30a.m.

Just logged in with Chrome, as since this morning I am unable to login with Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421

Anybody else got problems? After entering user/password, the next screen doesn't show up, it just keeps reloading and changing URL...

nick   February 11th, 2012 10:33a.m.

What is the URL before and after you try to log in?

Is this happening both on www.skritter.com and www.skritter.cn?

I did hear from one other user who had problems logging in on Internet Explorer recently. We'll check it out.

scott   February 11th, 2012 3:06p.m.

I tried logging in on the same exact version on all four domains:

www.skritter.com
www.skritter.cn
beta.skritter.com
beta.skritter.cn

And none of them caused trouble. Perhaps there's a setting or plugin that's doing it?

Zhangyanglu   February 11th, 2012 4:19p.m.

Hey Nick, hey Scott, thanks for your help.

Here is what happens: I open via
http://www.skritter.com/
and then click on "log in",
enter user name and password, and then it happens.

IE window constantly switches between
http://www.skritter.com/home
and
https://www.skritter.com/login

The URL changes in the upper part, and it seems like IE tries to load the page, and then gets redirected to the second URL, and then goes back to the first one etc.

Until yesterday it was fine, and I didn't change anything on my PC... strange.

scott   February 13th, 2012 1:46p.m.

It's in an infinite loop. When you request the home page, it must think you're not logged in and sends you to the login page. But the login page thinks you're logged in and so sends you to the home page. Is it possible the cookies being sent to the home page are different than the ones being sent to the login page, maybe because one is encrypted and the other isn't? That's the only thing I can think of.

Zhangyanglu   February 25th, 2012 10:41a.m.

Well problem persists, guys... deleted all cookies etc. but same problem as 2 weeks ago.

scott   February 27th, 2012 12:24p.m.

Is anyone else seeing this issue with IE? Zhangyanglu, can you reproduce this bug on other computers with the same version of IE? I'm still having trouble reproducing this.

zhangyanglu   February 28th, 2012 6:55a.m.

Unfortunately I don't have other computers with the same configuration.

On my work PC with Windows XP and IE 8.0.6001.18702
everything works fine :(

zhangyanglu   March 11th, 2012 6:24a.m.

Guys, problem solved now... don't know why, actually.
I reinstalled Java and Flash (which I had also done previously) but this time it seems it made the difference.

Back on duty now! :)

nick   March 11th, 2012 10:13a.m.

Good to hear! Will keep that in mind for anyone with similar issues.

zhangyanglu   March 11th, 2012 1:36p.m.

I should have kept my mouth shut, Nick :( After restarting Windows I got the same problem again.

Actually, I am back with Chrome now, but it just works horrible, cuz each time I switch the window, for example to Winamp or Outlook, and go back to Chrome, the actual writing part is completely messed up, low reaction time, some strokes get lost etc.
*sigh*

Any idea about that cookies problem? I mean I tried all and I really cannot figure out why it was fine for a few moments and now it's messed up again with IE. *sigh*

nick   March 11th, 2012 5:18p.m.

No more ideas about the cookies problem, but what about Firefox?

zhangyanglu   March 11th, 2012 7:21p.m.

Would have to install a third browser then :(

Nick, honestly, couldn't it be a problem on Skritter side?

I am using exactly the same IE which is causing the problem with skritter.COM, but now I am accessing via skritter.CN - and, guess what, it works..

(at least now, let's see what happens after I reboot).

nick   March 12th, 2012 10:35a.m.

Yes, it could definitely be something on our side--it's just that we don't have any way to reproduce or leads as to what's causing it, and everyone else we've asked with a similar setup doesn't see it. So the problem can still be a misconfiguration on our server, but it's prohibitively difficult to find unless we get another clue.

zhangyanglu   March 14th, 2012 2:48p.m.

Well I rebooted and it keeps working with skritter.cn and NOT working with skritter.com.

Based on your comment I suppose I'll have to leave it just like this; I mean I would help ya if I had any idea how! ;-) But I suppose there is no file or report I could send you from my side to figure what's going on there with skritter.com, huh?

scott   March 14th, 2012 4:40p.m.

Try out ios.skritter.com. I've set that up as a test for a migration we're doing for www.skritter.cn soon; it'd be interesting to see if that worked completely.

zhangyanglu   March 14th, 2012 5:26p.m.

Hi Scott!

ios.skritter.com works fine... even after re-start.

So I can confirm it's definetely something related to the normal skritter.com
