Android compatible html app stops during login

renata   February 12th, 2014 3:20a.m.

Hi everybody,
I recently switched from iphone to Android (Huawei G700) and tried to log into the Android compatible html app (it requires an additional login, even if you are logged in on the website) and this never worked out. I never got passed a website saying "Logging in". How could this be fixed?

Thanks!

Hi renata,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble accessing the HTML5 alpha. I would try shooting josh an email directly so he can take a look at your account and get you up and running. His email address is josh@skritter.com

Hope that helps!
-Jake

same Problem here

mcfarljw   February 13th, 2014 5:14p.m.

We've switched gears a bit and are working towards getting the app in the Play Store, but there are two immediate causes I can think to resolve this problem.

1.) You must use the latest version of the Chrome Browser (different from Android browser, which is sometimes just called Internet).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.chrome

2.) If you're using that latest Chrome Browser and loaded up the application awhile back then it might be using an older less stable version. You can clear the cache and try to force it to load the latest version.

Will the android app work offline?

mcfarljw   February 13th, 2014 10:55p.m.

@lechuan, Yes, it uses application caching to store data so even though it uses the browser it'll still work while offline.

Hi Josh,
many thanks! The good news is - it worked! (Using googlechrome now, I could try to clear the cache again from the newly downloaded version? Before it didn't download at all so there was no cache to be cleared). I got past the login and was able to download the initial 10MB after I deleted all my lists. Then it worked fine for some words (no idea where the words came from) and then I readded my lists, and that's the bad news, it stopped again on one particular word, it does not move to the next page whichever button you press...

So good and bad news... any clue?

Thanks!
Renata

@renata, I'm glad using chrome fixed the login issue. I just checked your account and the initial download went to just above 13MB, so it's possible that somehow the download skipped something and then it tried to load something that didn't get downloaded.

This seems to happen sometimes when the screen turns off while it's downloading. A not so elegant solution would be to logout and login, then watch the entire download, but I don't really want people to have to do that. The better solution will be for me to figure out how to fix it.

What we're doing right now to combat this problem is shifting our focus to getting the application into the Google Play Store as a native Android application. It's taking a little bit more time than expected, but progress is being made.

I'll run some tests from my phone on your account and see if I can dig anything else up to help you resolve the issue for the time being.

Hi Josh,
Thanks for your efforts. It did not start a new download after I logged out. How could I delete what was downloaded so far? I couldn't find where the data file was stored on my phone to clear it. It was not in the downloaded file, nor in the all apps... I know I'm not a geek... ;-)thanks again!

Renata

When you logged out did it return you to the main screen where you have to log in again? The data can be hard cleared using this method:

fungsousa   February 16th, 2014 4:06a.m.

I sometimes go to the html5 site on my computer just to check if it works. And just noticed that on windows XP with firefox 26 it hangs on "downloading" part between 1k and 1.44 MB whereas on linux fedora 17 with firefox 22 the "downlading" part takes less than 3 minutes. Hope this info helps.

mcfarljw   February 16th, 2014 9:24a.m.

@fungsousa, I'll have to test it again on XP. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi guys,
everything works fine now, the pages move nicely, too. Basically I followed your advice, cleared the cache and downloaded it again, this time putting the automatic screen shut down at 30 minutes. That was more than enough. Plus I downloaded another flashplayer and now the characters show as well...
Thanks again for all your help, good job for the app / just in time for me as I switched to a huawei phone...

I'm getting stuck right after the login screen on the study page, http://html5.skritter.com/study . The initial download takes only a few seconds, then let's me in.
I select study, and yes I have a list added to study, then I stare at a blank screen with the toolbar and timer at the top, but nothing else. Tried with 3 different browsers including chrome and same problem.
Running Android 4.4 if that helps.
Really loved this app on the iPhone would love to see it work in my new droid. Let me know if I can provide more info.

Hey doctorew, Have you added any items yet on the Flash (http://www.skritter.com) or ios versions? You'll need to add a few items first that way before you use the html5 version.

doctor_ew   March 29th, 2014 11:59a.m.

Hey Josh, I selected a book and section to study if that's what you mean. Double checked in the web version and they're still there

mcfarljw   March 29th, 2014 12:05p.m.

Unfortunately I haven't updated to the html5 site to support fresh account with no idea yet. I've been putting all my time and effort into getting this new native Android app going.

As a workaround you can go to the usual Skritter website and add some of the items for you selected lists. 3-5 should be enough.

http://www.skritter.com/study/all

Then go back to the Android device, click sync and the study page should then show up. You might also try logging out and in if that doesn't work.

Sorry that process isn't easier. Once it gets switched over to a native Android app you won't need to do anything like that anymore.
