Is there a way to only remove certain questions about a word?

I started a few chapters of Genki I. I started switching the setting to write all the kanji. Now I have some really hard kanji I am not ready for, airplane for example, and don't really want some of the writing prompts for some other words as well, including a few likeたいてい that aren't even kanji for in the textbook. Is there a way I can select to not write the kanji for these words. I switched back the setting to only study the manditory kanji but these prompts still show up. I still want to study the words though so I don't want to ban them.

When you ban a word, it will ask what part you want to ban. You can choose to ban writing only.

@MrUnknown: If you make a change it isn't retroactive, so any of the writings you had previously added will still be there unless you ban them (like 本杰明 mentioned)
