one thing I don't like a lot is when I create a list from my chinesepod, a lot of the compound words come up as "not in database". For example, I just saved a chinesepod's "wrapping a gift" lesson, and compound words like 包装纸 came up as "not in database". I know I can use skritter on chinesepod, but I still don't like that this happens because what happens if you want to add more words to the ready made vocab lists on chinesepod? As of now, I'd have to use the ready-made list on chinesepod, and then make a new list of extra words on this site, which is kind of inconvenient

I'm a little confused myself, but I don't *think* it should be working like that.

I add stuff to my Chinesepod vocab list all the time, and it seems if Skritter doesn't know the word it'll add it with the definition I (or CP) chose...

Whenever a list is fetched from ChinesePod, all the words in the list get automatically added to our database. However, there are many ways the words can fail to be imported, and that's when you see that message.

I checked out 包装纸 to see exactly why it failed and looks like it's because the pinyin they sent us is incorrect, or at least, it's not as long as it should be. ChinesePod gives us the pinyin 'bao1zhuang1' which is two syllables, so our pinyin parser rejected it because it's a three character word. Nick informs me the pinyin should be 'bao1zhuan1zhi3'.

So sometimes it's incorrect data from ChinesePod (as far as our algorithm can figure out anyway), and sometimes it's just that we don't have the characters. Not much more we can do except occasionally query ChinesePod again to see if the data has been corrected; we don't have the resources to fix any errors that happen. But yeah, if the word is added manually then it'll work.
