忽然 pronounciation wrong?

zhangyanglu   November 19th, 2012 4:30p.m.

Hi Folks,
When I hear the pronunciation of the word 忽然 to me it always sounds like hu shan and not hu ran.. Can anyone confirm? iOS version, that is.

Regards

On the PC, it sounds like proper 标准.

However, you may have been exposed to a different dialect. In many southern regions, ran2 is pronounced similar to lan2 and people don't even know how to pronounce the 普通话-style "r" sound. In some northern regions the "r" round is pronounced like "y".

Weird thing is, once you advance to the second character, and listen to the pronounciation, the same speaker pronounces it the way you would expect it to sound.
