self-made list causing crashes and errors

Jupiter C   September 16th, 2013 5:44a.m.

Hi all- has anyone ever experienced a list causing IOS skritter to crash and/or not sync?

I made a list with words from the documentary called "A Bite of China, Natures gift", but every time I add it, it causes skritter to crash.

I have to delete the word list or skritter will crash during sync. If i remove it, sync, then sometime later add the list again, skritter will soon give me the ”its gotta go" error.

I"ve also tried remixing my list, reducing each section to only 40 words or so, but skritter will crash not long after adding the list.

One of the Skritter staff checked out my list but couldnt find anything wrong

It happens too regularly to be a coincidence. So I will have to skritter without my list until I or someene else can figure out whats wrong.

Thanks to anyone who can help

Some time ago, I had regular crashes with Skritter, at least one or two per day. Since I am every now and then rebooting my iPad, cashes are gone and Skritter is pretty stable.

Might be worth a try.

Jupiter, I have been noticing that some of the superhero words you've been adding have got malformed readings. Things like "shen2 ji3, qi2 xian1 sheng1" for 神奇先生. I correct them when I see them to "shen2qi2 xian1sheng5", but those sorts of things do cause various errors when you go to download and study the word.

It's on our list to up the strictness of word creation to catch that sort of thing. Until then, please double check the pinyin, since the auto-generated pinyin is just a guess and not always what you want.

I'm guessing that for this list, there's some word in it which has a sentence which is making the app crash, because the app doesn't know how to decode some corrupt data. This is one of the things I've fixed in the iOS 7 app that's waiting for app review right now. So hopefully, when you get that update this week or next week, you should be able to add that list. If not, throw me an email at nick@skritter.com and we'll dig deeper.
