Introducing characters

The animated stroke orders got me thinking a bit - it would be nice to have an introduction to a character. This could be as simple as describing (naming them and giving their meaning) each of the radicals in turn while animating them. Learning the radicals is really the only way to learn to write Chinese and if Skritter could help me with this it would be great (yes, I could look them up but that would take a while).

For characters that have a radical form it might be an idea to display it off to the side to reinforce the concept (this would be really useful in conjunction with a word list containing words that are radical-ized).

I believe something along those lines is planned with a small window giving information about that character. I once asked about having a breakdown of the radicals in there and I remember several people seemed to prefer the option of being able to right their mnemonics into it.
Don't know though now exactly which option our Skritter team is leaning towards. A combination or perhaps even both?

Personally I would still find such a breakdown really useful. Although Mnemonics might help remember better (never properly really tried it), my Chinese relatives always describe characters by breaking them apart like that.。。。and if I want to know what they are takling about that's the way to go.

We're leaning toward doing both. We have some decomposition information that we'll be working into the practice page and Flash prompt. We're also planning on a shareable mnemonic system, too. They'll be awesome, but to do it right will take some time. We haven't started fully designing everything yet, or I'd give more details.
