Direct URLs for studying different languages?

alandtse   November 25th, 2011 1:39a.m.

Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to bookmark the study url so that it knows which language set I'd like to study. For instance skritter.com/study/ will take me to my current language, which I've bookmarked. Would it be possible to add some sort of flag so I could have a bookmark for skritter.com/study/chinese or skritter.com/study/japanese and it'd automatically switch me over to that language?

I know I can log in and manually switch the language setting, but sometimes I'm working off a mobile and just want to study 3 or 4 words at the moment.

Thanks,
Alan

There's a url we use for switching languages. I've tweaked it to make it possible to set the redirect URL directly. It's only on beta right now, but by the next release (December 15th) it will be on live. Here's the URLs you would use:

Chinese:

http://beta.skritter.com/prefs/setlang?lang=zh&redirect=/study/all

Japanese:

http://beta.skritter.com/prefs/setlang?lang=ja&redirect=/study/all

What other kinds of arguments can be passed directly via the URL? Can the study settings, for instance, be manipulated? Reading prompts don't work right on my phone, so I'd like to be able to turn them off, along with turning off raw squigs, but the settings popup also doesn't work on my phone, so I can't change any of those settings normally. Are those things that could be passed directly with a URL that I could bookmark?

Forgive my ignorance about these matters, I've often seen problems solved on these forums by appending magical incantations after skritter.com/ but I don't know how they work or what they can do.

There isn't really; there's only a url for switching languages because that's a major change that every page needs to know about. We can't really do the kind of tweaking you're suggesting right now; we need to focus on the iOS app and anything that's particularly important on the website. Sorry!
