My words search

atdlouis   July 2nd, 2012 11:44p.m.

I was trying to locate 二者必居其一, and so I typed in 二者 in the search box.

But 二者必居其一 didn't show up... Shouldn't it? It contains 二者

Also, I tried to find all of my words with 航. I typed 航 in the search box... I thought all of my words with the character would be pushed to the top, but I had to flip to the 3rd page before I found 宇航, one of my words. Is this how it should work?

When you search for a single character, it pulls up all words containing that character, sorted by toughness, which means that some of those in My Words will come later. It has to do this for performance reasons: picking out all those that are in My Words first is very slow.

When you search for multiple characters, it doesn't search for larger words that contain both of those, because the index is not build that way.

nick,

Would it be possible to put the "My Words" search in the app?

Sometimes I come across a character that I know I'm currently studying, and I want to see all of the words that I am reviewing that use it. It would be convenient if it was in the app. On the other hand if the cost benefit ratio doesn't work, that's fine.

Good point. That's something we would like to do later down the road. For now, though, you'd have to log into the Skritter website via mobile Safari on your iPod.

(We originally intended to have a more direct interface to the rest of the website from within the app, but Apple didn't let us because it's possible that you'd be able to find some link to some link to pay for something, so we had to remove it at the last minute.)
