Characters don't show up

talkiestarc3   October 8th, 2014 1:25a.m.

hi. For some reason during the reading exercises the characters don't show up. It's been happening for a few days. Anyone know how to fix this?

iangeorgebuchan   October 8th, 2014 2:37a.m.

I've been having this problem too. Only started a few minutes ago. I updated this morning so it might be a problem with the most recent update. Not sure how to fix it either. Help us Skritter!

susannekaiser   October 8th, 2014 3:54a.m.

Hi guys
You were lucky that you didn't update your app earlier. This problem occurred first last week. See thread "2.6.1 update awaiting review (fixes missing characters)" and there is also an other one on that topic. Per those threads hopefully by end of this week it should be fixed :-(

elynmac   October 8th, 2014 4:49a.m.

Still having this problem.

bennyboyk   October 8th, 2014 12:13p.m.

hurry

ジェレミー (Jeremy)   October 8th, 2014 4:09p.m.

Hi guys,

We've sent in an update to Apple about a week ago which fixes this, however it's still pending review.

As a temporary workaround you could use Advanced Study to only study writing and/or tone prompts, or use the web version at: www.skritter.com/study, or the Android app available via Google Play store.

Sorry about this! We're hoping the update will be made available very soon.

humalin   October 9th, 2014 12:58a.m.

Right! I though it was something wrong with my version... please fix.

ineedmayo   October 9th, 2014 4:54a.m.

Will we get these seven days credited back to our accounts? Because I can't use the computer version and I had just started trying to tackle a backlog... Now it's back up to over 800 due. I know people say to just practice the writing but the way I've been adding I did all the definitions and reading first so I only have maybe four writing in my queue.

timezero   October 10th, 2014 1:50a.m.

I second indeedmayo's opinion. It's been over a week and the software is still not functional. Practicing only writing does not add new vocabulary. As a result of the software not functioning properly, my study performance has decreased significantly.

Other than this, skritter is a great software and I'm very happy using it.

gua nö   October 10th, 2014 2:34a.m.

Timezero, just a tip. You could start a regular study session in the app and manually add words. Then you switch to the advanced study mode and study only the writing (and the tones if you like). The new words/characters will then be added.

ineedmayo   October 10th, 2014 5:43a.m.

Well I realised today that I had backed up my iPhone just before the update so today I managed to delete the updated app and install the old version... I love skritter but paying as much as I do I shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to use the product in a way that works for me.

本杰明   October 10th, 2014 6:26a.m.

All technology these days forces consumers to jump hoops. It's commonplace for the software on computers, phones, video game consoles and so on to consistently malfunction. Given that, it's hard to critise Skritter too much. If big companies like Apple, Microsoft and Sony can't get it right... we might as well go back to the 90's.

basedgodshinji   October 10th, 2014 8:31p.m.

Yeah, it's hard to be too mad, though not testing the update on every device was pretty stupid.

I'm trying to use the online version and it's not adding items. I click the add button and it lines them up, but they never actually pop up, despite the fact that I have nothing in review.

I'm hoping you guys can get one of platforms I can use working.

pauldla   October 13th, 2014 10:59a.m.

I'm still experiencing this; are there any updates on the issue, or are we still waiting for Apple to do their thing?

I needs my Skritter! :)

fungsousa   October 13th, 2014 11:03a.m.

Same problem here. Should The auto update apps have been disabled and I'd still have a Working version .

humalin   October 13th, 2014 12:51p.m.

I need skritter, else my brain will rot :/z

Brandon   October 13th, 2014 2:20p.m.

So, any word on when the update will be pushed out?

Per Jeremy on 10/8,
"We've sent in an update to Apple about a week ago which fixes this, however it's still pending review. "

Is 2 weeks normal for the review process?

SkritterJake   October 13th, 2014 3:11p.m.

Updated 10/14/2014:
Apple have approved the Skritter Chinese update and it should now be available in the App Store.

Mats   October 13th, 2014 3:19p.m.

SkritterJake, could you extend mine too!?

It would be great - I use to study on the morning train and has not been able since my app was autom. updated 1st of Oct-ish. Anki is nice but not enough..

jfis   October 14th, 2014 3:44a.m.

Hi my characters are also not showing up ever since I updated it, very frustrating. can I please have the extension also?

qiaoneng   October 14th, 2014 7:15a.m.

Please extend my subscription. I live in China and have relied on Skritter IPAD application to make my commuting and study more tolerable. I have no real opportunity to utilize the desktop version.

ximeng76   October 14th, 2014 11:16a.m.

Kuai dian ba, Apple! Can I get another extension too?

JoeR   October 14th, 2014 11:22a.m.

since at least two weeks the problem exists - how long we still have to wait??!!

jay9457   October 14th, 2014 12:08p.m.

please extend my subscription too. I am from korea although this has no korean version I love to study chinese by this app. I hope apple approve ASAP

cziogas   October 14th, 2014 12:11p.m.

Thank you for suggesting to use Advanced Study! I'm back to writing, at least. Can't enjoy my breakfast without Skritter, and it's been a few days since I've been able to use it. Glad to know there are some temporary workarounds out there.

Hurry up, Apple!

nick   October 14th, 2014 2:21p.m.

2.6.1 is finally approved, so check the App Store for the update. (If you don't see it, wait an hour or two for it to finish rolling out.) All 2.6.1 does is fix this missing characters bug. Background audio / mute switch changes will come later in another update that I can now submit.

Sorry again, everyone.

Semaset   October 14th, 2014 4:02p.m.

Thank you! I have just downloaded the updates. Back to normal on my studies with my iPhone and iPad. Can I please get the extension approved. My plan of studies has been, unfortunately, disrupted. Let's hope it was only a small hiccup :-)

ximeng76   October 14th, 2014 5:08p.m.

I've never before waited so eagerly for a software update - thanks guys! One question: I just started using the Japanese version in addition to the Chinese one. Is the Japanese version still awaiting its own update? It seems the problem still persists in the Japanese version...

SkritterJake   October 14th, 2014 5:16p.m.

@ximeng76 The Japanese and Chinese applications are separate and have their own approval process on Apple. The update for Skritter Japanese 2.6.1 should be available for update shortly.

pauldla   October 14th, 2014 6:24p.m.

非常非常好,downloaded the update and all is now well with the world again. And just in time, I'm doing the HSK next month.

Thanks for getting the problem solved, guys!

ximeng76   October 14th, 2014 6:30p.m.

Hooray! Just left a glowing review on itunes!

russell359   October 14th, 2014 11:01p.m.

Hi, would like an extension too please. On iPhone 5.

susannekaiser   October 16th, 2014 5:59a.m.

Thanks. Japanese app seems to work finally again.
