Japanese word for curd?

Mandarinboy   June 11th, 2012 5:08a.m.

To our Japanese speaking users. Can i use カード for asking for curd in Japan? Anyone know any brand that sells this? I am getting way to little protein from the food at work here and really need to find some light food high on protein. In Sweden we have this called Kvarg. That is 20% protein and only 55 Kcal. And yes, I do eat plenty of fish, chicken, eggs etc at home but that does not help me at work.

I think the word is "オカラ" (雪花菜) but I think that just refers to the lees left over from tofu... then again, if you're looking for light food that's high on protein, tofu's always good! If you have access to tofu then I would suggest that! Anyone else have any good suggestions?

I'm going to do a bit of research on this, now that you've brought it up. :D

That is just the left over from tofu. They are ok but not as good as curd. I do eat a lot of 豆腐 but prefer curd. The word curd is on the other hand used differently in differently part of the word from what I can see. When i try to buy that in India I definitely get yogurt. Similar but not the same.

I was looking in German forums and I think you will have to make your own - you might find a recipe on the Web. Is there something like cottage cheese there? カテージチーズ - or is it too high fat? I have no idea and speak no Japanese - I'm just copying from a forum.

Thanks Zeppa, I have been looking for Cottage Cheese as well and there is something that is at least in that direction but it is sweetened and fat. I am not that health conscious but the fat from cottage cheese is not the best one and the ones i find here in Japan is really fat. I guess that i will have to keep to my fish, tofu and eggs instead:-) We do 12 hours a day at the office and the food in the company restaurants is not making anyone happy when it comes to food quality.
