iOS app in China syncing suggestion

SGRuixue   June 21st, 2012 8:49a.m.

I'm currently in China and not able to sync my ipod with the online account. My university has a wifi system that requires users to down load a program. Sufficed to say, I can't download that onto the ipod.

I'm hoping I can get to an internet bar to sync and drop my new words there, but I might not be able to. If this comes to be the case, is there anyway to add my new words directly into the app itself on the ipod?

AS a side note: I was thinking that it would be really useful to be able to plug our idevices into our computer and do a "hard line" update if other methods fail. Do you guys think this could be possible in a future update?

Ah, the wonders of unnecessary software in China. I can't help you with your request, but it did remind me of the time I spent something like 14 hours trying to get online banking working on my Mac (involving getting a copy of windows and reinstalling it twice -- and even then the software was so flaky it only worked with a full moon, and when the sky was just the right shade of green).

I've never heard of being able to download data for an app through such a connection. I don't think it's possible given the way Apple has set up the system, I'm afraid. I would suggest talking with the IT staff at your university; sometimes they have alternative ways to allow devices onto the network, such as whitelisting your MAC address.

just get a 3G card from china unicom 1G is around 80-100 RMB per month. if you have a non 3G device there are small 3G wireless routers 6-800RMB which will allow you to share the 3G uplink to phone pad and laptop.

Many cities in China have coffee shops with wifi these days, unless you are in a very small town. You might be able to go someplace like that every now and then to sync?
