A few bugs/issues when switching test types

lechuan   July 21st, 2012 1:37a.m.

Just a few bugs/issues I noticed today in the iOS app when playing around with a new test type (reading):

1) If you change "Add Frequency" to manual, but haven't yet added any words, when you click on the "Study" button, it reports that you don't have any words to study, and returns you to the main menu. It would be better if it stayed in the study screen so you can manually add words

2) In Settings->Vocab->Parts, if you have only one test type "On" and you turn it off, a "Disabled All Parts: Need to have at least one part enabled" message pops up. At that point the "On/Off" settings no longer match what is actually on. Even though my settings page said that "writing" was on, when I went to study I was getting "reading" tests. I had to turn all test types on, then turn off three of them to reset it properly.

3) I have been using Skritter for writing tests (and Pleco for reading tests). Today I decided to try giving the reading tests in Skritter a try. I turned off Writing, turned on reading, and had Skritter automatically add a few words. Unforunately, it added words at the point I left off in my writing practice. However I wanted Skritter to start adding words from the beginning of the list for the new test type. Is this possible?

4) Continuing from #3, I decided to turn the 'reading' test back off after seeing that it was not adding from the beginning of the list. Then when I manually added more words in the writing test, it skipped over the words that I had added in the reading test (Heisig Characters 479-484: 培赔咨姿资) Is it possible to add these words back into the writing tests?

Just wanted to 'ping' this in case it got missed on the weekend.

For the short term, I'm especially interested in #4 so that I can get those characters into the testing cycle for writing.

These issues will be fixed when we launch advanced study, which will let you study from individual lists and choose particular parts to work on. Then you won't have to switch the parts you're studying in the settings area to do what you're trying to do.

To get those words added properly, set the study to the section you want to add all the parts from. It will scan through and add anything that's missing. You can do this easiest on the website, by pressing 'change study settings' under the 'study' button.

Thanks Scott for your help! By setting the section to chapter from which the missing characters came from, I was able to add the missing characters.

It's all good now. I decided to nuke all my words and start fresh with writing, reading, and definition all on from the beginning. Working marvelously now! Thanks again.
