Very long startup time on iOS

Christian   October 12th, 2013 4:32a.m.

I'm experiencing very long startup times for Skritter on my iPhone 4/iOS 7 - about 18-20s. Anybody else has the same experience? There is a current poll on the skritter website about this, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask in the forum as well, in case iOS users haven't seen the survey on the website - I myself almost never open the Skritter website…

Yes I see those long times as well.

iPhone 4S / iOS 7

There seems to be something strange going on for a very small subset of users, based on the poll (which doesn't have most users, but shouldn't be obviously biased with respect to the iOS users which did answer it). Almost all startup times are normal, but a few users (so far on both iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S) get towards 20 seconds, which is now the threshold for killing the app as taking too long to start, and that can cause crashes on startup.

Do you know of anything non-standard about your devices (like being jailbroken, having tons of apps, having no free space, etc.) that might possibly be relevant?

I've just moved to an iPhone 5S, but before that on iPhone 4 (iOS7 and to a lesser extent iOS6) Skritter was often sluggish, sometimes "falling behind" i.e. a stroke wouldn't register or just the last few millimetre would show, a tap would take seconds to register/execute, etc.

I considered the possibility that the phone might be low on memory, but the problem persisted even when all other apps were killed.

No jailbreak here, and I have several GB of space left, and probably a normal amount of apps (around 100 or so).

I just cleared local data - the problem persists - and deleted and reinstalled the app - the problem still persists. So there seems to be absolutely no link to possible peculiarities of my account at all.
