People names

Hi everybody !

I'd like to learn how to write my girlfriend's relatives names using skritter. Does it make sense to make a custom (private) list for that ?

I mean, the names obviously don't exist in the dictionary, so they will be submitted for review, right ?

I'm not too familiar with how the dictionary works...

You add the person's name as if it were a word, and in the definition you say something like "a person's name".

The review process has more to do with corrections to existing definitions. If you add definitions for new words, AFAIK they're added right away and nobody has to review them.

The list can be private, but the definitions will be public. So I wouldn't put anything like "the father-in-law of my dreams" or "my honey bear's annoying little brother". ;)

You might want to add them with generic definitions like "a person's name" and then edit their positions in the family into custom definitions - that way if someone else ends up studying the same name because they know somebody by that name, it won't be listed as "my girlfriend's mom" or anything like that.

Probably a moot point in practice, but worth considering.

@FatDragon and @jww1066 are correct. Just a quick original definition is fine, such as this for someone named 王梅:"Wang Mei (a personal name)", then you do a custom edit of the definition.

But it's also fine to do a more personal definition, as long as you don't mind it being public, as James says, and within a week I'll review your new submission and convert it to a standardized form.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I'll do just that.
