Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

legacy.skritter.cn

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

Practice App won't load in Firefox 5

foozlesprite   July 22nd, 2011 4:39a.m.

I resubscribed a few weeks ago now that I have some spare time. Since then, I haven't been able to get the actual practice app to load! The page loads, but the flash application just displays the green loading dots for hours on end. I'm using Firefox 5 on Windows 7 with a Wacom tablet.

I've tried some basic troubleshooting including checking for add-on updates, disabling ad blockers, updating flash, updating my Wacom drivers, etc. in the hopes that I might get it working, to no avail. I tried it on IE9, and it works there...but I'd really prefer not to use IE. Anyone have other ideas on how to fix this?

I figured out my problem by disabling addons one by one. Apparently it was a security addon for Firefox called HTTPS everywhere, that forces sites to try to use https instead of http. I'm guessing that was causing a connection error somewhere. Only took half a month to figure that one out, hah.

On another note, would https to Skritter from China prevent the Great Firewall taking offense to some of the more sensitive words that come up in study?

Ah, you're the second user who had (and mentioned) trouble with HTTPS Everywhere. Using HTTPS might help a little in China, but it's a big pain.

working nicely in firefox 6 on lion (and chrome 14 and safari 5.1)

skritter still works nicely if you use a remote proxy (i.e use dreamhost or other hosting account as a proxy server) - handy way of getting around workplace download restrictions.

Can get vpn browing/download accounts from more than a few places for around $50 to 100 a year eg strongvpn.com and other european ones
