Bug - Disappearing progress

atdlouis   August 28th, 2011 8:36p.m.

I am having a problem with words disappearing from my study.

For example, I have a list called Miscellaneous, with a sublist called "NPCR 41 2/3".

I studied this list last week, and added it to my studies. It is labeled as "Done 8/24/11". But when I look at it now, half of the words on this list have no progress being shown. I take this to mean that I'm not studying them anymore.

This was not a problem with the last system, because all of my studied words were added to "My Words," so they never disappeared. Am I doing something wrong?

OK I am checking my other lists, and it is happening in them too.

Every word in this list and it's sublists was studied. But many of the sublists are completely blank now. So I'm not even studying them anymore. I am starting to feel like my study sessions are becoming useless because I'm not even sure if the words I need to study are in my list of words to study.

Does this make sense?

I am also studying the NPCR lists, 1 - 41. Except for the first 2 sections, every other section has words missing. Some sections have half the words blank. I searched for them in "My Words," and I am no longer studying them.

I had this problem with the NPCR lists a few days ago, on 8/24. I thought it was a problem with the switch to the new system. So I changed the list settings to "Add words starting at list 1". It took hours for the whole list to be added to my study again....

And now the words disappeared again.

I emailed you about solutions. It sounds like frequent list settings changes is the root cause of your problems. They shouldn't be necessary to do in the new system, and whenever you choose to study starting from a later section, earlier sections are removed as basically it's telling Skritter you don't want to study them. It's a lower bound of sorts.

If other people are having words removed and you don't believe they should be, let me know which list it is and I'll investigate. Sounds like it's a usability problem more than a bug though...

It is definitely operator error. Still getting used to life with the new changes. Thanks Scott.

Glad to help! Let me know if anything's still giving you trouble. Tomorrow I aim to put up some changes which I think will make things more clear, based on what you've told me.
