itunes / ios6 probs

Aurora   October 11th, 2012 9:30p.m.

Hi there,

I have been skrittering on my ipad thanks so much, but I have just dusted my iPod 4.2.1 off, and need to add Skritter to take on hols with me.

Now when I go to update, it is now version 6 that I have to update to, to do that I have to update iTunes to 10.7 - but when I click on download it doesnt do anything - so I cant update my iPod to add Skritter -

I did a few google 'can't update to 10.7' searches, and it appears there have been many probs - but not an answer I can really understand...

can anyone help me...is there anyway to update to iPod 5 at least to get Skritter on...if so how do I do this when the update button only gives me Ipod 6 update option?

Any help appreciated...

Cheers,
Donna

You should be able to upgrade to iOS 6 without iTunes. Go into the settings app on your ipod, general tab, and then into software update.

You can also go straight to the Apple website and download from there, that's what I did.

Thanks to you both - unfortunately in my settings, general tab, there is no option to update software...could it be somewhere else...I did a search on the ipod for 'software' and another fo 'update' and nothing relevant came up...

also bennyboyk - if I download from the apple site wont it start a whole new iTunes??

Cheers!

Go into the app store on your ipod.

My bad I missread your post. I don't know what you should do.

Updating iOS directly from the device was a feature started in iOS 5, so iOS 4.2.1 wouldn't be able to do that. Donna, if you download iTunes from Apple's site and install it, it will not make a new iTunes library. The installer will detect an old version and automatically upgrade it without any work on your part.
