Hello,

i don't know if you are aware of this project that is now fully funded on kickstarter : http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shaolanchineasy/chineasy-begins-0

They expect to deliver an app, and it could be a good idea to let them know what you've already done and see if there an interest to work together :)

Just my 2 cts
Kind regards
Laurent

I quite like the pictures approach for teaching a few basic characters (and its not exactly new), along with the folk etymology that goes along with many of these, but I squirm a little at various statements on that site:

“Even though there are tens of thousands of Chinese characters, only a few hundred are actually necessary to comprehend basic Chinese literature and begin to delve into Chinese culture and art.”

“With top 200 most frequently used characters a person will be able to understand about 40% of the basic Chinese literature. The trick is to know how to build phrases by using those characters. This is enough to understand Chinese found in Menus and on road signs.”

“In Chineasy I teach a mixture of simplified and traditional forms - whichever we think makes the most sense according to the system I designed. If you read carefully, I always point out the counter part (either simplified or traditional) so that you can learn both.

Please don't worry which system you are learning. It’s like knowing the difference between British spelling and American spelling. For instance, in the UK you spell ‘flavour’ like this, but in the US you spell it without the ‘u’, like this ‘flavor’. In real life you tend to come across both around the world.”

Perhaps a little more than squirm.

That's all very misleading, but sounds great if you know relatively nothing about written Chinese.

It looks like it'll end up being an excellent image resource library, but it bites off more than it can chew with the statements it makes as ricksh points out in his quotes. I'll add another:

"This is where most westerners get confused. In English ‘crater’ is one word but in Chinese, crater is made out of three characters." - I've yet to hear a westerner get confused by this concept for more than a few seconds with a proper explanation.

It looks nice, but more like a nice design study. At least for Japanese there were already books with nice pictures around Kanjis (like Pict-o-graphix). I liked the posters and post cards, iPhone covers etc. though. Would seem to be an interesting market to explore.

the ubiquitous beijing "student art gallery" street meetings always give me cause to ponder the grey divide between business puff and scam, have same feeling here.
