How to change the tones pronounced

funchinese   July 19th, 2011 7:59a.m.

A quick question. How can I change skritters way of pronouncing a word i.e. the tone.

For example 压 can either be pronounced either yā or yà. I would like the computer to pronounce it as yà.

You can't. Besides, that's a strange pronunciation to want anyway. 99.99% of 压s will be ya1, not ya4.

Thank you Byzanti. Is the preset always the most common one, like you say with ya1?

Typically the default pronunciation is the most common. I once asked if it would be possible for each individual user to specify how a character should be pronounced but I think it's just too much work for something that doesn't bother most Skritterers.

aside: An option to drop most neutral tones Taiwan-style would be nice as well.

Apropos of tones, this is pretty entertaining (if NSFW)
