Inconsistent 戶 radical?

Kawe   February 4th, 2012 9:54p.m.

I just noticed that word with the 戶 radical look different. Some seem to use a print form while others are in handwritten form.

Personally I prefer handwritten.. but it would be nice if it was consistent cause it is easier to learn that way.

Example:
照顧 (print)
房子 (handwritten)

Is it a print/handwritten distinction or a simp/trad distinction? George has been changing some of these lately; I'll ask him what's up.

Hi Kawe, that's a bit tricksy, but I have done research about it. You can check out the results at the bottom of the stroke order research page: http://www.skritter.com/resources/stroke_order_research

Basically, we differentiate based on trad/simp, and there are probably inconsistencies in the database right now, so if you spot any of them, let me know (george at skritter.com) and I'll fix them up!

My teacher told me one was print form and the other was handwritten.

Not sure what is true though, haha.

He's a teacher at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. You can reach him at huibaide at gmail.com if you want.

EDIT: Oh, for the record. Our traditional characters are taught with what you call the simplified version.

@Kawe ask your teacher which one he believes is the handwritten form , and which one he believes is the printed form

Kawe   February 6th, 2012 2:40a.m.

Same thing actually goes for the "grass" radical that you put on top of chars like 藍. The one with only one stroke is print form apparently.

Bohan: The 戶 is print form he said.
