Splitting learning aspects

NanoStrike   June 5th, 2012 2:01a.m.

I would like to ask for the best solution to the following:

Im studying HSK lists, learning writing, tone, definition and reading. The writing and tones are obviously taking the longest.
Being able to write and pronounce is of course great, but being able to recognize and understand is also very valuable. Therefore I want to continue learning to write characters but already learn to read and define many more.

Right now I can't do other than switch the entire profile settings to reading and definition only. What I'd like is to have a list doing reading and definition only, and a list doing everything.

Any suggestions?

@NanoStrike You might consider exporting your words/characters from Skritter into a program like Anki. Then only study writing's in Skritter and the other three sides in Anki.

Being able to choose parts to study for a list is on my list of features to build. First though iOS needs to be wrapped up, and then we need to do some code refactoring and site optimization, which I'm planning out now. Then come features like that and example sentences. In the meantime, icebear's suggestion would work.

Thank you both

Speaking as one who would prefer to keep all of my SRS learning within Scritter...

I too would like to be able to choose which words are in my passive receptive vocabulary (definitions) and which within my active productive vocabulary (writing, pronunciation - pinyin/tones).

This would allow me to use Scritter to model how I learn more effectively.

Since I would like to have traditional characters in my passive vocabulary, I would like to have the option to switch off the testing of their writing.

And while we are asking for the impossible...

I would like to have a very high retention rate for very frequently used words, but a very low retention rate for very infrequently used words, and all graduations of frequency/retention rate in between. I appreciate this might be easiest to implement by having different retention rates for each list.

Many thanks! And best of luck with the iOS launch, it looks fantastic!

石磊: for very frequently used words which you really want to learn really well, grade yourself harshly for them. That is, if you don't feel like you knew it immediately, give yourself a 2 or a 1 for it. This will cause the system to bring them up more frequently.

@石磊: Also you can have this level of control individually at the word or character level, by banning individual parts. Not as efficient as dividing them into lists, but that can be a way to do what you want in the meanwhile.
