惡心= wrong character.

安勇氣   August 9th, 2014 2:26p.m.

Hey Skritter team!

I hope ya'll are doing well!

惡心in the traditional form is incorrect. It should be 噁心 ( the former is missing the 口)。

I reported the character as well, but I thought posting about it would be in order since the character is not correct. That way other users can --hopefully-- avoid learning the wrong traditional form.

Please accept my apology for adding to your already mountain of a workload.

Thanks for your consideration Skritter overlords

Hi Klooste,

I'm not studying traditional characters but my dictionaries in pleco says 恶心〔噁/惡-〕meaning that both 噁 and 惡 can be used. Maybe 噁心 is much more common (?), and you haven't encountered 惡心, but it's still correct?

snowcreature99   August 9th, 2014 10:59p.m.

噁 maybe a variant, 現代漢語(大陸)and ABC C-E (臺灣) show 惡心 as main form.

rmzhao82   August 9th, 2014 11:37p.m.

I'm also finding both in some places. Here http://zhidao.baidu.com/link?url=xCmFeV55WUGKpzwgPtgN6LoT_1rn4rW3EciXJndE2Xdfwz_zTDvL7-bRmiw4cc9_LHn8EcLKA-TnaZADdPW2Oa was a question about it asked on baidu.

噁心 is more commonly used in Taiwan.

Both 惡心 and 噁心 are correct traditional forms and both of them exist in Skritter's database. The problem is that 噁心 and 恶心 are not linked together. Can the missing links between them be added?

The difference between 惡心 and 噁心 is that 噁心does not have a reading of [èxīn]. Also, the meaning of “make somebody embarrassed” in 惡心 is a dialectal usage. I can't find any evidence that 噁心 has this meaning too.

By the way, the definition for 惡心 given by the TW MOE dictionary when it's read as [èxīn] is 邪僻不正的想法、念頭。 So, it should be something like “evil thought” or “wicked thought.”

Besides 噁心, another frequent use of the character 噁 is the word 二噁英 (Dioxin). According to 现代汉语词典 and 通用规范汉字表 (June, 2013), the simplified form of 二噁英 is 二(囗恶)英. So,噁 has 2 simplified forms. This character (囗恶) cannot be displayed using most fonts, so I have to break it down into its radicals. (Checking with python2, using the ord(u"􅛖") function, the result is 1070806.)

Thanks @pts for the detailed reply, and @klooste for the post!

We do have both traditional forms in the Skritter system. From what I can tell they're two separate entries because of the alternative pronunciation for 恶心 in the traditional form. I've made a note to explore the characters in our next round of mapping, but in the meantime I would suggest adding 噁心 in addition to 惡心 if you're looking to study both.

Sorry about any inconvenience this might cause!
